Scholarship is a grant or payment made to support a student’s education, awarded on the basis of academic or other achievement. A scholarship is financial support awarded to a student, based on academic achievement or other criteria that may include financial need, for the purpose of schooling.
A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further their education at a private elementary or secondary school, or a private or public post-secondary college, university, or other academic institution. Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria, such as academic merit, diversity and inclusion, athletic skill, and financial need, among others (or some combination of these factors).
Scholarship criteria usually reflect the values and goals of the donor or founder of the award. While scholarship recipients are not required to repay scholarships, the awards may require that the recipient continue to meet certain requirements during their period of support, such maintaining a minimum grade point average or engaging in a certain activity (e.g., playing on a school sports team for athletic scholarship holders, or serving as a teaching assistant for some graduate scholarships). Scholarships may provide a monetary award, an in-kind award (e.g., waiving of tuition fees or fees for housing in a dormitory), or a combination.

Somali Language Learning for Children Online
Haafid Academy offers classes in Somali for both children and adults. We have made sure that Somali children or adults in the diaspora learn their mother tongue at home. Many Somali children grow up in the diaspora and Somali is not their first language of instruction. And parents of children often do not have time to talk to their children for long in their mother tongue; as the family is often separated by work and education.
Fortunately, Hafid Academy operates in Somalia; and therefore has qualified teachers to teach the Somali language. For the benefit of the Somali community in the diaspora, we connect with Somali language teachers and students in the diaspora; by taking advantage of distance learning (or online learning).
Somali Language Classes for Kids, consists of basic, intermediate, and advanced levels. Our goal is for children to first learn the correct pronunciation of letters; then add new words that they can speak; until later to build long sentences. In educating children we never miss out on stories that engage children to help them learn the language alongside learning about their culture. Lessons range from two, three, four to five days; and depends on the student’s choice.
The distribution of Somalis abroad is uncertain, primarily due to confusion between the number of ethnic Somalis and the number of Somalia nationals. Whereas most recent Somali migrants in the diaspora emigrated as refugees and asylum seekers, many have since obtained either permanent residence or citizenship. A 2008 publication estimated the ethnic Somali international migrant population as 1,010,000, including around 300,000 in East and South Africa, 250,000 in the United States and Canada, 250,000 in Europe, 200,000 in the Middle East, and 10,000 in Australia, New Zealand and Asia. By the start of the Yemeni Civil War, the number of Somalis in Yemen was estimated to be 500,000.
UN migration estimates of the international migrant stock 2015 suggest that 1,998,764 people from Somalia were living abroad.
As of 31 March 2020, the number of refugees from Somalia registered with the UNHCR was 763,933. This is down from a peak of almost 990,000 in June 2013. The majority of these individuals were register in Kenya (256,408), Yemen (253,755) and Ethiopia (198,670). According to USAID, many of the displaced persons in these adjacent territories are Bantus and other minorities.
